Error Deleting Folders In Windows 7 | Destination Path Too Long

You may be in a situation, where Windows shows the error, Destination Path Too Long: The file name(s) would be too long for the destination folder when you are trying to delete folders in Windows 7.
If you want to delete all of the folders, the solution is by drilling down to the almost endless copies of the folder and moving subsequent levels to the root and deleting piece by piece or you can shorten the file / folder name and try again. I have no idea why Windows makes it so hard to delete such a nasty, unwieldy folder structure.

The error message not necessarily be "Destination Path Too Long" it can also be any of the following.
  • Path too long.
  • Error cannot delete file: cannot read from source file or disk
  • Cannot delete file: Access is denied
  • There has been a sharing violation.
  • Cannot delete file or folder The file name you specified is not valid or too long. Specify a different file name.
  • The source or destination file may be in use.
  • The file is in use by another program or user.
  • Error Deleting File or Folder
  • Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.
  • Path too deep.
Also, there is a third part tool "Filename Too Long fixer" to delete files that windows cant because of the above problems.  Filename Too Long fixer can handle pathnames of any length, up to the internal Windows limit of 32,000 characters. Whereas, Windows Explorer/FAR would fail to copy/delete/rename any pathname longer than 256 characters( PATH TOO LONG error ). For More Information, please visit : www.pathtoolongtool.com
