Windows Speech Recognition Problem | Microphone Stops Working | How To Fix

Sometimes, your microphone will stop working and most importantly, the "setup microphone" dialog box in the speech recognition area of the control panel no longer functions

And when you click setup microphone, the dialog box pops up as it should and when when you click "next" the dialog box where you are asked to read the message about dictating to your computer spontaneously closes the second you start dictating with no message.

The dialog box "works" so long as you say anything OTHER than the text that the dialog box asks me to read into the computer. As soon as you start reading closes with no message.

This issue can be caused by the driver of the microphones. I suggest you follow the steps below to reinstall the drivers.
  1. Connect the microphone.
  2. Click "Start", type in Device Manager the Search bar and press "Enter". Click Continue if necessary.
  3. In Device Manager, find the entry of the microphone.
  4. Right-click and choose Uninstall.
  5. Restart.
Once your system restarts, your microphone will automatically be detected by Windows and the required driver will be installed. Hope this will work fine in most cases.
