While attempting to migrate a user profile using USMT 4 offline migration, you must specify the domain user account to include by sid when performing an offline USMT migration.

But, instead of specifying a user account to include, what if you need to specify user accounts to exclude. If you do that without much knowledge, Unfortunately it will migrating all the accounts even the local accounts that you have specified to exclude.
Here is an example of such wrong scanstate command:
scanstate S:\offline /offlinewindir:C:\Windows /i:Config.xml /w:5 /c /v:1 /config:config.xml /ue:LocalAccount /ue:"SID of domain account to exclude" /uel:90 /efs:skip /l:S:\Offline\Logfiles\Offline.log
Is it possible to exclude user accounts in an offline scanstate migration? is it possible to exclude as required?

Solution:
It is able to exclude the user accounts in an offline scanstate migration.
In your scanstate command, please note that The /uel option is not valid in offline migrations.

Speakers not plugged in Error Message In Windows:  I recently installed Windows 7 , but I haven't been able to get any audio to work. I have tried installing the latest chipset drivers (for on-board sound) and GPU drivers (if that may help). I have also tried installing Realtek AC97 and Realtek HD audio drivers, with no affect. When I go into audio devices it says "Speakers, High Definition Audio Device, Not Plugged In"

This Article Applies To Windows Vista And Windows 7.

In the Realtek HD audio software, See if you checked disable front panel detection, then audio will sprung to life. Read the explanation below.

Check the 'Disable front panel jack detection' option
  • Double-click on the Realtek HD Audio manager system tray icon (see screen shot below).
  • Click on small folder icon (see screen shot below).
  • Check that the 'Disable front panel jack detection' tick box is unticked.
  • Now insert the jack plug of either a microphone or headphones into the corresponding front panel socket of your computer.
  • If you now see the message 'Information: A jack has been plugged in', then you do not need to change this setting as your system has a HDA compatible front panel.
  •  If you do not see this message, then click on the small folder icon again and tick the 'Disable front panel jack detection' check box.

You may get the error, Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Podcasts. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)). This error may be caused after a windows update. How to correct this backup error?

As said before this error may have caused from an Windows Update. And not really, this can also occur if the library is reporting the path of this folder incorrectly and hence the issue. As a workaround, please do the following:
  1. Change backup settings
  2. Select the same target device
  3. Let me choose
  4. Expand the user nodes from the tree view to see which user has the "Podcasts" library.
  5. Deselect the library.
  6. If you want the contents of this library to get backed up, please select the actual path of the folder (ex: C:\Users\bench3\Podcasts) from the Computer section in the tree view.
  7. Save settings.
This will exclude the problematic library from your backup settings and the next backup should be GREEN. Please try this workaround if you are coming across the error 0x80070002

With Windows 7 (64-bit), the game could run just fine, but with color issues as if we had suddenly forgotten what the color of the grass looked like (green, right?).

In order to resolve this issue, the only thing we were left with was to press Ctrl+Alt+Del and close explorer.exe or of course do it by making a batch file that automatically took care of the problem. No further solution was given by Microsoft, no further attempt was made.

Affected Games:
1. Age of Empires 2
2. Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings
3. Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors
Problem running Age of Empire Game in Windows 7 Enterprise (64-bit),You get into the game's menu, but as soon as you either click to start a campaign, scenario, or even the map editor, the game shuts down. Windows 7 then gives you a message that says "... this game is too old and..."

Solution: This game is still one of the most popular strategy games up-to-date and Microsoft claims that this game is compatible with Windows 7 64bit. Since this game was designed for older system and only supports 800x600 graphics, please try to adjust the screen resolution down to 800x600 with 256 colors, then launch the game to see if it works. And also try to run the game in compatible mode, just follow the screen-shot below.
You may need to contact the graphic manufacturer to obtain the latest graphic driver and download updates for Age of Empires 2. Moreover, you can refer to the following methods to get a better game performance.

Modern games can strain a computer's resources. A computer that runs some programs perfectly can become sluggish and potentially unresponsive when faced with the demands of complicated games. You might notice flickering graphics or lowered frame rates that make playing your game feel like you're watching a slide show.
The following sections list several factors that can contribute to the reduced performance of games and describe steps you can take to address the problems.

Check for software and driver issues
The first place to start when diagnosing software problems is to make sure that all of your software—including drivers—is up to date and properly adjusted.
  • Check for known issues and updates for the game. Most software problems are not unique, and when you encounter one, it's likely that other people are having the same problem. Frequently, game publishers will issue updates that contain fixes to known problems. To learn more about known issues and get updates for games and devices, visit the game publisher's or device manufacturer's website.
  • Update Microsoft DirectX. DirectX is a suite of multimedia technologies that helps create the special visual and audio effects that come with games. Many games rely on DirectX to help get more performance from your computer. Make sure that you have the latest version of DirectX so that you can take advantage of all of the latest features. For information about making sure that you have the latest version of DirectX, see Which version of DirectX is on your computer?.
  • Get the newest device drivers. Because game performance can be affected by device drivers, it's a good idea to make sure that you have the latest drivers for all of your hardware. For more information about keeping your drivers up to date, see Update drivers: recommended links
  • Adjust your game's settings. Most games have settings that allow you to control the resolution and level of detail that's displayed, as well as the quality of the audio. Check the information that came with the game to find out how to use those settings to optimize the game for your computer's hardware.
    Check for hardware issues
The first step in diagnosing potential game hardware problems is to make sure that your computer meets the minimum hardware requirements for the game. These requirements are usually printed on the game box. After you ensure that your computer meets the minimum requirements, check for hardware issues by performing the following tasks.
    • Adjust your display settings. One of the most common causes of performance problems is video card settings. For more information, see Ways to improve display quality.
    • Disable your joystick. If you are using a joystick, make sure it's not the source of the problem. To do so, shut down your computer, unplug the joystick, restart the computer, and then test the game using your keyboard. If the issue doesn't appear when you're using your keyboard, contact the joystick manufacturer to troubleshoot the problem.
    • Temporarily disable the sound card. Disabling the sound card will help you determine if the sound card is the cause of the problem. To temporarily disable your sound card, follow these steps:
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
      1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
      2. Double-check Sound, video, and game controllers to expand the section.
      3. Right-click your sound card, and then click Disable.
If disabling the sound card resolves this issue, contact your computer manufacturer for more troubleshooting steps.
    • Check your computer's Windows Experience Index base score. New games are developed to take advantage of the latest technological advances in hardware. If you continue to have problems running games, make sure that your hardware is performing properly. Performance Information and Tools can help you learn about your computer's capabilities, identify any issues that need your attention, and take steps to address performance-related problems.
      • Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type Performance Information and Tools, and then, in the list of results, click Performance Information and Tools.

To create windows service one must provide an username and it's password. It will cause problem if you don't want to run it as windows user, because when you create windows user for service, people can login as the user which is not good.  if there any way u want to create a service without creating a new user account.

There is one solution that we can run the service using Arbitrary User Account. You can create and assign the service using an arbitrary user account (this account can be disabled or removed later) and then later go into services.msc and modify the assigned account that will run the service

In services.msc you can specify in the Log On tab which account or 'use Local System account' for this newly created service, this ought to do the trick.

You can also create a new service from the command prompt in Windows. The command sc create is itself enough to create the service with local system account. To do so, just run the command prompt with administration privilege and type the following line and hit enter
    sc create myservice binPath="C:\to\my bin\path\app.exe"
If you know a better solution, please leave a comment in this post.

Firewall Configuration: Well this is where windows 7 will really come in handy. No longer does the Windows firewall pop up with a screen and give you three tabs to configure port names and type to block or unblock. It is a true firewall in the sense that it is feature rich and you have to configure rules just like a hardware router or firewall.

When you first click on the firewall it will tell you the different Home, Work, and Public networks you are connected to. Each one can be configured individually. This gives you a lot of flexibility when you connect to multiple networks.

    There are four options available.
    1. The first option is called, “Allow a program or feature through the Windows Firewall.” If you need to allow a well known game or application this is the easiest place to go to allow it. Click and it will bring up a box with a check list. All you have to do is check the services or applications you want to allow and click Ok.
    2. The second option is, “Change notification settings”. Basically this gives you options to make the little flag on the Start Bar.
    3. The third option is “Turn Windows Firewall on or off”. This one is a no brainer. If you choose off, which goes against my recommendations, all the connections loose the firewall protection.
    4. The fourth option is called, “Advanced Settings” which is for advanced users!
    Done!

I was talking about Windows-7, not Vista or not XP. In XP and Vista it's very easy. Just right click on the desktop, choose "sounds" and "Start Windows" and set the appropriate wave-File. And this doesn't work in Windows 7. The startup sound is separate below that sound chart. It can't be changed unless you can modify the imageres.dll file In Windows-7 there is only the choice: play the windows startup sound - yes or no.

Has anyone found a foolproof way to change the Windows startup sound (imageres.dll)? I've tried a few methods and here is one solution that really worked for me.
Remember: This cracked method is not support by Microsoft. Please fully backup your computer before modifying it. An incorrect modification may cause computer crash.
    Solution:
As in windows xp and vista, you cannot change the Sound from Control Panel, but there are ways one can use [Use it at your own risk]
    1. For best results, boot out of Window 7 and into an alternative OS, such as XP. (This is assuming you dual boot.). if you dont have a dual boot option, try in safe mode.
    2. Locate the file "imageres.dll" in Vista's System32 folder. For instance, C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll. Copy that file into a different location, i.e. your desktop.
    3. Download ResHacker (it is better you download reshacker before booting into safe mode or to another OS).
    4. Open ResHacker. (Open the imageres.dll file in ResHacker). Important: for safety, try to backup the file in another location in case you may need to revert back to original settings.
    5. Find the folder that reads "WAVE" and expand everything below that.
    6. Right click 1033 (this could have a different name depending on your locale), and click Replace Resource. Click "Open file with new resource", and find the wave file you want to replace it with. Once you're done, in Resource Type, type "WAVE", in Resource Name type "5051", and under Resource Language type "1033" (or whatever number you have). Once done, click Replace.
    7. Click File, then click Save. Now you can copy this file to Windows 's System32 folder. Keep the imageres_original.dll file ResHack left behind in case you want to revert back to the original sound.
    8. You might have some Permission issues while replacing the old file, if you have linux live cd handy, copy the new dll to a thumb drive and  boot off from it and replace the file.
Please note that hacking the registry, especially using 3rd party tools, is neither supported nor recommended by Microsoft.

Windows in general, detects when a monitor is turned off in a Multi monitor setup and moves the applications outputting to the second monitor from the main monitor, however in some situations, this is rather annoying.
Dell monitor connected to DVI output is working fine, but Samsung TV connected to displayport output with a displayport->hdmi adapter is connecting/disconnecting every time the tv is shut down or computer goes in and out of power saving mode. And when this happens, all windows go back to the first monitor. This makes win7 completely unusable with dual monitors.
The feature is nice to hook up an external monitor from time to time, but NOT if you want always to work with two monitors. We need a way to disable this. So far there is no way to turn this feature off to make a program stays on the monitor.

I've to say that I'm not much confident on microsoft providing a solution... because they don't see the problem. for my friend, the situation is the same...

Notebook with HDMI output connected to LCDTV HDMI input

Everything goes fine, then, when he decide to watch some tv. he have to  change the HDMI source from HDMI1 to HDMI2 (where DirectTV tuner is connected) he watch  his thing, and when he try to go back to HDMI1 to continue surfin' the net, he finds nothing. No signal. He have to actually open the lid of his notebook, go to properties.. bla bla, and switch the input to Digital Tuner again.

    Unbelievable.

By the way, he is using vista on that notebook and i am using windows 7... so, if they didn't fix this since vista was released, I don't think they will do it from now on. What a stupid bug!!

Is This behavior is by its design:
This behavior is by design and they don't think there is a way to override this functionality except to make sure that both monitors are turned on when you start the system.

If a second monitor is not detected, everything will be displayed on the available monitor.

Whatever you undertake, act with prudence and consider the consequences. —Anon
No matter how comfortable a schedule looks at the beginning of an iteration, you can’t avoid being under pressure some of the time. If you find yourself having to choose between “doing it right” and “doing it quick,” it is often appealing to “do it quick” with the understanding that you’ll come back and fix it later. When you make this promise to yourself, your team, and your customer, you mean it. But all too often, the next iteration brings new problems and you become focused on them.
This sort of deferred work is known as technical debt, and it is not your friend. Specifically, Martin Fowler calls this deliberate technical debt in his taxonomy of technical debt,* and it should not be confused with inadvertent technical debt.

Technical debt is like a loan: you benefit from it in the short term, but you have to pay interest on it until it is fully paid off. Shortcuts in the code make it harder to add features or refactor your code. They are breeding grounds for defects and brittle test cases. The longer you leave it, the worse it gets. By the time you get around to undertaking the original fix, there may be a whole stack of not-quite-right design choices layered on top of the original problem, making the code much harder to refactor and correct. In fact, it is often only when things have got so bad that you must fix the original problem, that you actually do go back to fix it. And by then, it is often so hard to fix that you really can’t afford the time or the risk.

There are times when you must incur technical debt to meet a deadline or implement a thin slice of a feature. Try not to be in this position, but if the situation absolutely demands it, then go ahead. But (and this is a big but) you must track technical debt and pay it back quickly, or things go rapidly downhill.

As soon as you make the decision to compromise, write a task card or log it in your issue tracking system to ensure that it does not get forgotten. If you schedule repayment of the debt in the next iteration, the cost will be minimal. Leaving the debt unpaid will accrue interest, and that interest should be tracked to make the cost visible. This will emphasize the effect on business value of the project’s technical debt and enables appropriate prioritization of the repayment. The choice of how to calculate and track the interest will depend on the particular project, but track it you must.

Pay off technical debt as soon as possible. It would be imprudent to do otherwise. Act with Prudence!

Windows Update is a service provided by Microsoft that provides updates for the Microsoft Windows operating system and its installed components, including Internet Explorer. Updates are normally provided over an Internet connection, although there is provision for updates to be installed on computers without an Internet connection.
You might see both important and optional updates. If you don't see the Install updates button when there are only optional updates, click Optional updates available, choose the ones you want, and then click OK.

Important updates help improve the security of Windows and your computer, and they should be installed. Optional updates often are updated device drivers or program updates that aren't critical to their operation. You can install optional drivers if they add features (such as additional languages) or if you are having problems with an existing device or program. For more information about security updates, see Get security updates for Windows.

How can I tell if my computer is up to date?
Your computer is up to date when you've installed the latest updates for Windows and your programs. To check for Windows updates, follow these steps:
    • 1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
    • 2.In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
    • 3. If any updates are found, click Install updates.
To check for updates for other software programs and devices that do not appear in Windows Update, go to the software publisher's or manufacturer's website.

Get Updates For Windows And Other Microsoft Programs At The Same Time
Here's how to get updates for Windows and other Microsoft programs at the same time, including updates for Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and more) as well as new Microsoft software: In the left pane of Windows Update, click Change settings. Then, under Microsoft Update, select the Give me updates for Microsoft products and check for new optional Microsoft software when I update Windows check box. If you're already using Microsoft Update, which works with Windows automatic updating, Windows Update will automatically open and display your update status.
Some programs, such as antivirus or spyware monitoring programs, provide a link to check for updates from within the program or have subscription services that can notify you when new updates are available. It's a good practice to check for updates for your security-related programs first, and then for the programs or devices you use most often.

When you try to install updates for Microsoft Office applications through Windows Update or through Microsoft Update, you may receive one of the following error codes.
    Error 1: 0x80070646
    Error 2: 646
Error 3: If Windows Installer logging is enabled, the following line should be noted as a symptom: Error 1606. Could not access network location %APPDATA%\
    Summary:
We are aware of a potential issue you may encounter with recent Office Security updates. When installing these updates, the Windows Update control panel returns the error 646 or 0x80070646.

    Technical Details:
The error 0x80070646 or 646 is an MSI installer error that will only occur when the updates are installed via the Windows Update control Panel. Previous workaround to resolve the immediate problem requires the installation of the update from a standalone package from the Microsoft Download Center. We do not recommend this workaround.

Cause: The problem is potentially a result of an inconsistent/incorrect environmental variable (%AppData%) as shown below:
This problem occurs when Windows Installer encounters an error. Error code 0x80070646 and error code 646 are generated by Windows Installer. These generic errors indicate that Windows Installer encountered a problem. When you encounter the errors that are described in the "Symptoms" section, the problem may be caused by an incorrect value in the registry.

    Solution:
For Windows 7 and Windows Vista users
    • 1. Click Start, and then in the Start Search box, type regedit.
    • 2. In the Programs list, right-click Regedit.exe, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
    • 3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey.
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    • 4. In the details pane of Registry Editor, locate AppData. The value of this key should be %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming.
    • 5. If the value is not set to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming, right-click AppData in the details pane, and then click Modify.
    • 6. Enter %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming into the Value data box, and then click OK.
    • 7. Close Registry Editor.
    • 8. Try to install the update again. If the problem persists, repeat these steps but use the following registry subkeys instead of the subkey that is specified in step 3:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    For Windows XP users
    • 1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    • 2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
    • 3. In the Programs list, click Regedit.exe. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
    • 4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    • 5. In the details pane of Registry Editor, locate AppData. The value of this key should be %USERPROFILE%\Application Data.
    • 6. If the value is not set to %USERPROFILE%\Application Data, right-click AppData in details pane, and then click Modify
    • 7. In the Value data box, enter %USERPROFILE%\Application Data, and then click OK.
    • 8. Close Registry Editor.
    • 9. Try to install the update again. If the problem persists, repeat these steps but use the following registry subkeys instead of the subkey that is specified in step 4 above:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Windows Update fails to install: Security Update for .NET Framework 4. Cannot Install KB2160841 In the following Operating System:
    • Windows XP
    • Windows Server 2003
    • Windows Vista
    • Windows 7
    • Windows Server 2008
    • Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems
    Solution:
    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Program and Features (on windows vista and later) for earlier version of Operating System, go to control panel and chose Add Or Remove Programs, click it.
    2. Scroll down to Microsoft.Net Framework 4 Client Profile, right click it.
    3. It will give you a choice of Uninstall/Change, click it.
    4. Then, it will give a choice to Repair it, pick Repair it. It will take about 4-10 minutes to repair (with my PC) your experience may vary.
    5. When completed, go to your update center, and update it again.
If that doesn't work and if you are someone who is not a computer savy, try this, Remove Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0 with the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx ) , reinstall the Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0 and install the Update.
    Reboot your PC.

Most people in business agree that being sensitive to and doing your best to meet the “people needs” of your employees is in your best interest as an employer. But a good deal of debate has always existed over just how much responsibility a company needs to assume and how much time (and money) a company must devote to the needs and priorities of employees as opposed to the needs and priorities of its business operations and customers.

That’s where you come in. As a human resources manager (or as a business owner or senior executive responsible for the HR function), your job is to focus on the practices and policies that directly affect the welfare and morale of your company’s most important asset, its employees. It’s up to you to help your firm strike the optimal balance between the strategic needs of your business and the basic people needs of your workforce. The way your business manages your employee base can make all the difference in your ability to differentiate yourself from the competition.

Striking this balance has never been easy. But most people in business would agree that not only is the task harder to achieve today than in the past, but it’s also more important as well. In short, human resources has become a business unto itself. And the principal asset of this particular business is people.

Human resources management is the phrase that nearly everyone uses to describe a set of functions that once fell under the category of “personnel administration” or “personnel management.” Regardless of the name, you can sum up this particular aspect of business as the decisions, activities, and processes that must meet the basic needs and support the work performance of employees.

The most common areas that fall under HR management include the following:
Staffing: Strategically determining, recruiting, and hiring the human resources you need for your business.
    • Basic workplace policies: Orienting your staff on policies and procedures, such as schedules, safety, security, and so on.
    • Compensation and benefits: Establishing effective — and attractive — wages and perks.
    • Retention: Continually assessing the quality of your workplace and HR policies to ensure people want to stay with your company.
    • Training and developing employees: Ensuring that your staff grows in knowledge and experience to help your company expand and continue to meet the changing needs of customers.
    • Regulatory issues: Complying with the ever-increasing number of federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Human resources management is all about people: finding and recruiting them; hiring them; training and developing them; paying them; retaining them; creating an environment that’s safe, healthy, and productive for them; communicating with them; and doing whatever is reasonably possible to find that delicate balance between what best serves the basic needs of employees and what best serves the market-driven needs of the company.
Alert: I must stress that no cookie-cutter formulas for effective HR management are available. Every company regardless of size, location, or purpose must deal with human resources issues in a way that’s best suited to its needs and situation.
If you run a small business, for example, you probably function as your own HR manager that is, you personally oversee and conduct all the classic human resources functions of your company: You recruit and hire. You set up the compensation and benefits package. You write the paychecks and keep the appropriate records.

The chances are good, too, that you’re the person responsible for training and developing the people you hire. And although you may not need to publish a company newsletter to keep the people who work for you informed about what’s going on in the company, you probably make a point to keep them in the loop.

Bigger companies face the same basic challenges and carry out the same general activities. The only difference is that larger companies employ individual specialists or sometimes entire departments to handle these same functions.

True, after they reach a certain size, most companies feel virtually obligated to create a human resources department even if it consists of only one person. Because of the increasing complexity of HR issues today, larger companies have boosted the size of their departments and typically employ specialists in areas such as benefits administration or retirement plans. But smaller firms that don’t have the resources for such specialization must ensure that the people who handle their HR functions are solid generalists that is, they possess skills in several areas of HR rather than in one particular specialty.
If your business is on the smaller side and you want to meet the needs of your employees today, you’ll need to know a lot about a lot of things and the more you know, the better.

Have any one experienced sound lag in Windows 7? I write and record music but Windows 7 has an irritating lag issue in the sound from the speakers or headphones. This makes it impossible to use as far as recording anything.

From research, it is understood that this is not the problem with sound-cards, this is A WINDOWS PROBLEM, not sound-cards or driver issues.

    Possible Solutions:
    • Try to update the device drivers to the latest version which are compatible with Windows 7
    • If the issue persists, try reinstalling the sound card by the steps below:
    1. Click Start. In the Start Search box type "devmgmt.msc" and press Enter.
    2. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers", double-click on the entry of the sound card.
    3. Click the tab "Driver", click "Uninstall".
    4. Click Start. In the Start Search box type "appwiz.cpl" and press Enter.
    5. Remove the entries related to the display adapter.
Then, you may temporarily disable the anti-virus, then run Windows Update to install the audio driver.
Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

The Compressed Folders feature is available for free from Windows XP Professional and allows you to compress folders, while retaining the ability to view and work with their contents. To create a compressed folder, start Windows Explorer, click File, click New, and then click Compressed (Zipped) Folder. This creates a compressed folder in the current folder. You can drag and drop files into the compressed folder and the files are automatically compressed.

If you copy a file from the compressed folder to another that is not compressed, that file will no longer be compressed. A zipper icon is shown, marking compressed folders, and these folders are labeled Compressed Folder.

Benefits of using compressed folders generated with the Compressed Folders feature include the following:
    • You can create and use compressed files and folders on both file allocation table (FAT) and NTFS volumes.
    • You can open files directly from the compressed folders and you can run some programs directly from compressed folders.
    • You can move these compressed files and folders to any drive or folder on your computer, the Internet, or your network and they are compatible with other zip programs.
    • You can encrypt compressed folders that you created using this feature.
    • You can compress folders without decreasing performance.
    • You can compress individual files only by storing them in a compressed folder. If you move or extract the files into an uncompressed folder, they will be uncompressed.

For some reason the gadgets in windows 7 are not working properly. I can open the gadget gallery and select a gadget, but it doesn't show the entire thing. For example i select the clock, and all it shows is a black square with the red ticking hand frozen. Another example is the CPU meter. All it shows when i click on it is a little white square where the meter should be. I can still close the gadgets by way of the close button on each gadget though (the calendar doesn't appear at all).
This could happen if you have recently made any update to your adobe software's. No matter if your UAC is on or off and no matter what edition of Windows you are using.

    Solution:
This is what actually worked for me. And i hope it should work for you too.
Warning: before you try to modify windows registry, learn how to backup windows registry. Also try to have a backup of your registry at this stage before you proceed. Read More On How To back up your registry http://www.bench3.com/2009/05/back-up-registry-in-windows.html
    • Go to your windows registry and look for the following
    • HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\
    • Do you see a little pseudo-graphic subkey between \Zones and subkey 0? If so, delete it. Now try your gadgets again.

Employers Know What They Are Looking For: This myth actually works in your favor. Managers who have a clear idea of the skills, requirements, and personal characteristics of their ideal candidates are definitely in the minority. They may have a vague, general notion of what they’re looking for. They may also have a job description that aids them in defining the job responsibilities.
But few managers take the time to think through what type of individual it takes to actually do the job. On top of that, interviewers may not know what questions to ask to assess whether the candidate is qualified for the position.
This is particularly true if they have never personally hired anyone for this type of position or are replacing a long term employee. Some good examples would be developers of new technologies and the creation of a new internal team when the function was once performed by an outside vendor, such as helpdesk or development.

Although you can’t control these situations, you must be prepared to handle them. If you think you’ve walked into an interview where they aren’t quite sure what they need, here are some questions you can ask:
    1. Is this a recently created position?
    2. Who performed these duties in the past?
    3. What were their strengths?
    4. What was missing from how they performed the job?
    5. What policies and procedures are in place to support this team/position?
You have the opportunity to define or redefine the ideal candidate by presenting how in your experience you see the needs of the organization being met. And here I literally mean in your experience—using examples of problem solving and accomplishment to redefine the expectations of professionalism for this position. By setting the bar to at least meet your value to this organization, you will be one step closer to being the perfect candidate.

What typically happens when an employer doesn’t have a clear idea of who they are looking for is that they end up weighing candidates against one another. That’s the least ideal situation for you.

A Technical Interview Is All About Your Technical Skills
Yes, the interviewer will ask you about your technical skills. Will he ask detailed questions about variables, methods, and file names? Maybe, but most likely not. Beyond entry-level positions, the likelihood that the interviewer’s technical knowledge will actually match yours is very small. What he is more interested in is how you applied your technical skills to solve a business problem, in the hope that you might be able to help solve his. Understanding what types of questions he might ask is extremely important.
You need to build up your general interviewing skills more than you probably need to enhance your technical skills.

You know you want a job. But do you really want just any job. let’s turn to what the hiring manager wants from the Employer, even if the job ad never mentioned it . When you think of the needs of hiring managers, you probably tend to think of just their immediate need to get a warm body to fill a seat. Isn’t that what the job ad and the HR recruiter said? Not true. Though filling an immediate opening is at the top of the manager’s mind, there’s a lot more happening under the surface. Your technical capabilities will definitely contribute to getting the job, but there are many competent techies out there who have sent out hundreds of résumés without a single job offer in hand. So what’s the secret?

First of all, the secret is really in what’s never expressed verbally by either the recruiter or the hiring manager.
Fact! Employers hire solutions, not people.
All hiring managers have four basic needs that must be met before they hone in on the perfect candidate. These needs drive the way they make their hiring decisions. By preparing to address these needs, though, you can make an impression and stand out among the other hundreds of candidates. The basic needs are:
    • Can you do the job?
    • Will you stick around?
    •  Will you fit in?
    • What will you cost?
    Can You Do the Job?
This is the easiest part to prepare for. After all, you have the job description. You know you have experience in the required. But what about using your known technologies to build a business-to-business solution. Do you have experience there? Determining whether you can do the job means understanding the technology, the company, the industry, and the position. This means doing some research.

As you begin your search for the right organization, start thinking about the experience you have, both basic technical experience and the specific projects where you applied that technical experience. Hiring managers want to know whether you’ll be able to apply your technical skills to their particular challenge. You can tailor how you present your experience so that it’s easy for the hiring manager to see you solving their challenge, meeting their requirements, and fitting in with their existing team.

    Will You Stick Around?
According to a study the average cost of hiring a new employee is approximately $8,500. This doesn’t include the amount of time managers spend away from their regular responsibilities recruiting and interviewing. Add to this relocating, training, and breaking in a new employee and we’re talking about a very expensive proposition. Each day that a new employee spends on the job represents an investment for the organization. No employer wants to see his investment evaporate after only a few months. So another characteristic is that you convey an impression of stability and commitment

    Will You Fit In?
Great, you scored a 99% on your assessment exam. You’ve proven you know what you’re talking about. But all of your answers have been provided as one-word responses. As the hiring manager tries to draw out a little more information from you, you stare back at him, as if questions like why you got into programming are none of his business. Not good. Though you’ve passed the technical competency part of the interview, you have just failed the social competency part.

You’ve got to keep in mind that you’re going to be part of a team. You’re not going to get the job unless that team thinks they are going to be able to work with you. Remember, they already work there. You’re the outsider. Some of the things they look for are similar personalities, work ethics, dedication, desire to be on the technology leading edge, same processes, and so on.

If you have 20 years experience as a project manager and you’re interviewing for a company with a relatively new (and young) development team, you’re probably not going to fit in. They may not be ready for the processes and structure. There’s nothing wrong with this. It’s better to learn it right up front than after you’ve quit your old job and moved your family across country.

    What Will You Cost?
Your cost goes beyond your salary. It includes the amount of training you will require, the amount of time it will take you to learn the industry and the business processes, and also the project at hand. It also includes benefits, relocation, and other perks. Salaries have actually stabilized in the last year. Hiring managers are being much more discriminatory about the benefits they provide.

If you want to stand out in the hiring manager’s mind, focus on presenting the value you bring to the organization. Emphasize that you bring a quick ramp-up to the job because you’ve worked for a competitor or worked on a similar project using the same technology.

To obtain a satisfactory IELTS Band Score, it is necessary to be realistic. If the goal is to reach a certain level of English proficiency, success can only be achieved with much practice.
It is important to know what an IELTS score in any of the Sub-tests means before you set yourself a goal. An outline of the Overall Band Scale levels is given below:
    • 9 Expert User: Has fully operational command of the language: appropriate, accurate and fluent with complete understanding.
    • 8 Very Good User: Has fully operational command of the language with only occasional unsystematic inaccuracies and inappropriacies. Misunderstandings may occur in unfamiliar situations. Handles complex detailed argumentation well.
    • 7 Good User: Has operational command of the language, though with occasional inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings in some situations. Generally handles complex language well and understands detailed reasoning.
    • 6 Competent User: Has generally effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings. Can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations.
    • 5 Modest User: Has partial command of the language, coping with overall meaning in most situations, though is likely to make many mistakes. Should be able to handle basic communication in own field.
    • 4 Limited User: Basic competence is limited to familiar situations. Has frequent problems in understanding and expression. Is not able to use complex language.
    • 3 Extremely Limited User: Conveys and understands only general meaning in very familiar situations. Frequent breakdowns in communication occur.
    • 2 Intermittent User: No real communication is possible except for the most basic information using isolated words or short formulae in familiar situations and to meet immediate needs. Has great difficulty understanding spoken and -written English.
    • 1 Non User: Essentially has no ability to use the language beyond possibly a few isolated words.
    • 0 Did Not Attempt The Test: No assessable information provided
Note: It takes three months of regular intensive practice to improve by one overall Band

Windows PE is a modified version of the Windows operating system that is designed to support installing Windows and troubleshooting and recovering an installation that can no longer boot.
Windows PE was created to help OEMs and IT professionals boot a computer with no functioning operating system.
Windows PE runs every time you install Windows 7. The graphical tools that collect configuration information during the Setup phase are running within Windows PE. In addition, information technology (IT) departments can customize and extend Windows PE to meet their unique deployment needs. Windows PE also provides support for servicing Windows images.
In the past, OEMs and IT professionals often used an MS-DOS-based boot floppy disk to start a computer. However, an MS-DOS-based boot floppy disk has a number of limitations that make it difficult to use for pre-installing Windows or recovering existing installations or data. It has:
    • No support for the NTFS file system.
    • No native networking support.
    • No support for 32-bit (or 64-bit) Windows device drivers, making it necessary to locate 16-bit drivers.
    • Limited support for custom applications and scripts.
The limitations of MS-DOS-based startup disks led Microsoft to develop Windows PE, which is now the primary Microsoft tool for booting computers with no functioning operating system. Once you boot a computer into Windows PE, you can prepare it for Windows installation, and then initiate Windows Setup from a network or local source. You can also service an existing copy of Windows or recover data. Because Windows PE is based on the kernel for Windows 7, it overcomes the limitations of MS-DOS-based boot disks by providing the following capabilities:
    • Native support for the NTFS 5.x file system, including dynamic volume creation and management.
    • Native support for TCP/IP networking and file sharing (client only).
    • Native support for 32-bit (or 64-bit) Windows device drivers.
    • Native support for a subset of the Win32 Application Programming Interface (API).
    • Optional support for Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), Microsoft Data Access Component (MDAC) and HTML Application (HTA).
    • Ability to start from a number of media types, including CD, DVD, USB flash drive
    • (UFD), and a Remote Installation Services (RIS) server.
    • Windows PE offline sessions are supported.
    • Windows PE images can be serviced offline.
    • Windows PE includes all Hyper-V™ drivers except display drivers.
This enables Windows PE to run in Hypervisor. Supported features include mass storage, mouse integration, and network adapters.

    Windows PE Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting. Windows PE is useful for both automatic and manual troubleshooting. For example, if Windows 7 fails to start because of a corrupted system file, Windows PE can automatically start and launch the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE). You can also manually start Windows PE to use built-in or customized troubleshooting and diagnostic tools.

OEMs and independent software vendors (ISVs) can use Windows PE to build customized, automated solutions for recovering and rebuilding computers running Windows 7.
For example, users can start their computers from Windows PE recovery CDs or recovery partitions to automatically reformat their hard disks and to reinstall Windows 7 with the original drivers, settings, and applications.
