Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Improved Audio And Video Over HDMI

Using HDMI to show display on TV. Video always works. Audio works after rebooting. Using HDMI to show display on TV.  Video always works.  Audio works after rebooting.   Both were working great w/o rebooting.  How can I set the HDMI default setting without rebooting. I do not know why the setting gets "lost".   HDMI was chosen as default.

Cable For HDMI: Because almost every computer has an output port, you can use a cable to connect your computer to your high-definition television (HDTV). Most computers have a VGA output port (so using VGA cables is very common). Others have Digital Visual Interface (DVI), high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI), or component video output ports, which all require different kinds of cables. Read More.

Sometimes the ATI HDMI device is shown to be live (control panel/Sound), other times it's not highlighted.

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 was supposed to improve the way audio over HDMI is handled. If you haven't already, it may be worth installing it. It should be available in your Windows Update.

If you are not getting the HDMI Output device, try the following troubleshooting steps…

In the sound devices page, there should be the item "Speakers" possibly along with some other devices. Right click somewhere in the sound devices box, and it should have an option to "Show Disabled Devices". If you check that box, it should show your HDMI output, which you can then enable.

Hello Haja,
I have problem with the sound system in Sony Vaio laptop. The sound has vanished and I could hear it only when I attach external speakers. I have checked the drivers and everything is fine except Digital High definition audio device shows not plugged in (with red arrow). I have tried uninstalling/updating all the drivers but am not successful yet. I would appreciate if you have any solution for this.
