Advantages And Dis Advantages Of HTC Flyer

The HTC has introduced another tablet, HTC Flyer. It's an Android tablet; but it doesn't feature the stock Honeycomb for tablets and goes with Gingerbread instead. It’s topped with the HTC Sense UI 2.1 for tablets , which looks equally good upscaled to the bigger 7” screen, and has the brand new lockscreen from Sense 3.0.

There’s a 1.5 GHz single-core processor instead of a dual-core Tegra-or-something chip. The Flyer boasts HTC’s Scribe technology giving you drawing powers on any screen on the tablet. The aluminum unibody has the trademark HTC feel all over it. Oh yes… It's a cool gadget by any standards.

HTC Flyer certainly can't compete with dual-core-powered slates in terms of FullHD 1080p video or the latest games with Unreal 3D engine and whatnot, it can still give users a rich, fun experience. The fact is it’s really pocketable and no burden to handle for longer than 10 minutes. One of the biggest advantage of HTC Flyer is that you can literally take it anywhere without having to carry a special bag for it.

Advantages And Dis Advantages Of HTC Flyer 3

And here’s the Key features of HTC Flyer

  • 7.0" 16M-color LCD capacitive touchscreen of WSVGA (600 x 1024 pixels) resolution
  • Single-core ARMv71500MHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 16/32GB of user-available storage
  • Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) with HTC Sense 2.1 UI
  • Quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and tri-band 3G 900/1700/2100 support
  • 14.4 Mbps HSDPA, 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with hotspot functionality
  • GPS with A-GPS support; digital compass
  • 5 MP 2592x1944 pixels resolution autofocus camera

Advantages And Dis Advantages Of HTC Flyer 2

Main disadvantages Of HTC

  • Weighs almost as much as an 8.9" tablet. And for a tablet on only 7”, this is  huge
  • Charges only with the supplied HTC charger. Which means, you cant use any universal charger. You need to depend only on Official Charger. Which also means that you should also carry your charger all the place you move.
  • Non-replaceable battery.
  • Lower resolution than current crop of Android slates
  • Lack of dual-core processor
  • Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread instead of 3.0 Honeycomb
  • 5 MP camera has obvious lens issues
  • No telephony

Choosing Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread instead of Honeycomb gives the Flyer the advantage of using a custom user interface and full support for the majority of apps out there. (Some regular Android apps have compatibility issues with Honeycomb slates). The downside is absolutely no support for Honeycomb apps, which are the ones meant for tablet use to begin with.

With the Flyer, you choose between a 3G-enabled and Wi-Fi-only version. Either way, phone calls are not available.

You need to have the Quick Office Application Available in your device to view or edit documents. Quick office is available for purchase only for v905 not v901. Hopefully it will be available soon.

HTC Flyer is the tablet with no GSM voice communication capabilities. And the fact that Quad-Band and EDGE are only for data communication, that is you can browse at the 3G Speed rather than making a call.

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

This 2G and 3G specification is only to the data communication and not to the voice communication. Thus, this unit can't make phone calls but you can use Skype.

This camera is just file if you are not planning on making a billboard or a poster size of your door. Most people view pictures through the actual screen anyways or at the most on a computer. With such a great screen resolution,  2 mega pixel would still look good on that screen

Right now, the whole mobile world has jumped on Dual core which is great but we don’t know why HTC is still way behind on that.

It does not full fill all the real purpose of tablets, its not a good replacement for smartphones. It doesn't even work like a netbook. Its just like a huge Android.

May be as we know,  HTC have two cycles of new phones every year. Right now, HTC is waiting for QUALCOMM's dual processors with Adreno 300 GPU.

Another bigger dis advantage is, it does not have a big screen, people would love if its more than 7” display.  Anyway, HTC was known by its Microsoft Windows products, and we still don’t know why this product from HTC is not Windows based.

Notice by looking at the pictures that the capacitive Android keys along the bottom MOVE when you tilt the tab from portrait to landscape? Don't know why, but DAMN that's cool!! And the form factor of this tab is just beautiful.

When compared with Samsung Galaxy Tab, HTC Flyer has much better screen and audio, slightly faster and the magic pen which is good feature for many. The plastics at top and bottom provide the feeling far from solid finish. All other functions are similar what we can expect from other android tablet.  And most importantly, it's pricey. It costs almost 700 to 800 Euro.

Advantages And Dis Advantages Of HTC Flyer 4

If you are looking to work on Office documents, remember, HTC Flyer does not have any build in office application installed. There's a free app available to give Office functions and compatibility for Word Excel etc. on Android

No 1080p Full HD Recording unfortunately, if you look in the camera section it says 720p HD Recording.

i not understand what HTC Flyer was not applied android 3.0 honeycomb? currently, all mobile manufacturer such as Samsung, LG, Motorola were launching the new android tablet OS- honeycomb 3.0. but HTC using gingerbread. i very surprise on it. HTC who is a smart phone leader in market now. IT also is first principle co-operate with Google android to develop the first android phone. disappointed to HTC now.

Advantages And Dis Advantages Of HTC Flyer 1

HTC Flyer Does not support ARABIC (bought as Middle Eastern Version), some sort of credibility is being compromised, but they promised to provide it in the up coming update.

HTC Flyer looks very similar to apple products  except the battery life. The battery really needs some improvement. We used to charge Apple iPad only once, in Standby mode may be for a week, with no drainage, with the flyer it is really poor performance in term of battery life.
