Cannot Insert PDF Files In Power Point | Unknown Error

One of our friend using PowerPoint 2010 has reported an Unknown Error when inserting PDF Files in the Power Point Presentation.

"When I go to Insert an Object (pdf file) I get this message: "The server application, source file, or item cannot be found, or returned an unknown error. You may need to install the server application. And in this article lets discuss Why is this happening? and how to fix this issue?”


Open your Adobe Reader X.

Click Edit located on upper left side of the toolbar.

Click Preferences.

The Preferences window will appear on your screen. Select General Category from the right left pane. And now try to

Tick or if it is ticked already try to Untick the Enable Protected Mode at Startup checkbox to enable or disable the feature and try if it works. You may also try this by restarting the computer in the Clean Boot Mode and check if works fine. If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, follow this link to know how to clean boot.

When you perform a clean boot, you may temporarily lose some functionality. When you start the computer as usual, the functionality returns. However, you may receive the original error message, or you may experience the original behaviour.

If you still face problem, it may be due to the Problems with embedding or linking to PDFs pop up every so often when Adobe makes changes to Reader or Acrobat. Let Adobe install all latest updates and see if the problem is solved.

If people viewing the file will have internet access that you can rely on, you could also post the PDF to a web server and link to its URL (assuming it's not some huge thing that might take a long while to download).
